Film News|

The films The Banshees of Inisherin and Aisha and the TV series Bad Sisters and The Dry will be among the leading contenders when the Irish Film and Television Awards take place in Dublin in May.

Nominations for the 2023 awards were announced on Tuesday in what is already a big year for Irish film, with multiple nominations at ceremonies including the BAFTAs and the Oscars.

The Banshees of Inisherin leads the way in the film categories with 11 nominations including Best Film and Best Director for Martin McDonagh.

Aisha, a drama focusing on immigration, follows closely behind with ten.

This year’s Oscar nominees are well represented on the list with nods for, among others, Colin Farrell, Barry Keoghan, Brendan Gleeson, Paul Mescal, Kerry Condon and the short film An Irish Goodbye.

The Oscar-nominated An Cailín Ciúin (The Quiet Girl) was a big winner at last year’s awards.

In the TV Drama categories this year, the dark comedy Bad Sisters leads the way with 12 nominations, including Best Drama and multiple acting nominations for its stars.

A live IFTA ceremony will take place this year on Sunday 7 May in Dublin and will be broadcast by RTÉ.
